Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. For this type of climate, the best time to plant grass is in the winter months when the soil is cool and moist. This allows the grass to establish a good root system before the hot and dry summer months.

Warm-season grasses like Buffalo, Cyndon (Bermuda etc.) grass and LM Berea grass may also be planted in the spring, but they may not be as well-suited for the cooler and wetter winter months. Kikuyu grass may be planted throughout the year so long it gets enough sunshine and watering.

It’s important to ensure that the soil is prepared properly before planting grass. The soil should be loosened, free of weeds and debris, and amended with any necessary nutrients. It’s also important to water the newly planted grass regularly to help it establish and develop a strong root system.
